Greenpeace: Genetic Engineering
This site, which is operated by Greenpeace, advocates no genetic manipulation of nature. It focuses on (1) promoting natural foods and the segregation of genetically engineered foods with proper labels, (2) preventing genetically modified organisms from being released into the environment, (3) preventing any living organisms or their genes being subject to private property claims (i.e., no patents), and (4) promoting genetic engineering issues being addressed by international bodies, with international regulations based on the precautionary principle.
Greenpeace USA, a part of the international organization dedicated to protecting the health of planet Earth, offers on-line media kits providing background information on various issues, including Greenpeace's concern that the FDA's safety standards regarding genetically engineered foods are insufficient and may be putting human health at risk. This media kit links to Greenpeace's report titled FDA Approved: Genetically Engineered Soy and Corn in Baby Food and Nutritional Supplements and to additional related information.

International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) was established in 1987 by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to promote the safe use of biotechnology world-wide and with special regard to the needs of the developing world. In 1995 it became a fully autonomous international organization composed of 41 member states. It has two main laboratories: one in Trieste, Italy, and one in New Delhi, India. It also hosts a network of 27 Affiliated Centres, which are national laboratories of member states. It sponsors both basic and applied research, including the production of novel malaria and hepatitis vaccines, the study of human pathogenic viruses, the study of human genetic diseases, and the genetic manipulation of plants. In 1995, ICGEB and UNIDO created BINAS (Biosafety Information Network and Advisory Service) to monitor global developments in regulatory issues in biotechnology. In 1998, the Centre added the ICGEB Biosafety WebPages, which are totally dedicated to biosafety and risk assessment for the environmental release of genetically modified organisms. Also in 1998, the Centre began publishing biosafety, a bibliography of scientific articles on the main topics of concern about the environmental release of genetically modified organisms.
